Long-time lurker, just stared posting an occasional message or two on the lounge. Living in the 1st District, I'd like to know who the viable candidates are against Bradley this year.

1. Well, you've got that word "viable" in there... |

kind of makes answering a little tougher. The ones that I've heard of are Peter Sullivan http://sullivanforcongress.blogspot.com/ and Gary Dodds http://www.dccc.org/races/candidates/NH_01_Gary_Dodds.htmlI don't know much about either one, but they get a mention in this Concord Monitor article. http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051030/REPOSITORY/510300367/1101/COL02Over in the First District, which includes Manchester, two Democrats want to take on Bradley. Rep. Peter Sullivan of Manchester has been criticizing Bradley for months with regular e-mails to reporters.
Gary Dodds, a magazine executive from Rye, is also putting together a campaign. He's started raising some cash, with another fundraiser scheduled for Nov. 11 at a winery in Portsmouth." Welcome to DU :hi:

Viable may not be the word that springs to mind in that race, thus far.
Other candidates include Peter Duffy, a Manchester attorney, and Carol Shea Porter - an activist from Rochester.
Bradley should be beatable. He ran as a "moderate" but has served as a rubber stamp for the far right, especially his buddy Tom DeLay. He was wrong on Social Security, is wrong on the tax cuts/budget cuts. He voted for the REAL ID act, which will give us all national ID cards. He's in favor any anti-immigrant policy. He doesn't yet understand that he needs to court Latino voters.
A smart opposition candidate would court gays, women, and minorities. A smart candidate would point out that a man as wealthy as Bradley is doesn't have a clue about life in the real world. He owns millions of dollars of stock in oil, energy, and pharmaceuticals - as does his wife, as do his children. So - he votes in favor of tax cuts for millionaires and votes to cut funds for low income heating programs.
One of the most pathetic moments I witnessed at a Bradley town hall this year, was when he was asked about same sex marriage, by a gay man who has had the same partner for 27 years. All Bradley could do was stutter the same refrain: "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman." He repeated it over and over. He gave no rhyme or reason - just repetition. It was truly pathetic - and I've seen a lot of pathetic Bradley moments in the last year.

Martha was beaten up pretty badly by that campaign - plus she spent a lot of her own money. I know she's not even considering it this year, and I'd be surprised if she was willing to do it again. Whoever does run ought to remind us all about the awful sexist ads Bradley ran against her in 2002. That was reprehensible.

Absolutely! That's one of the reasons I'd like to see her run.

8. Bradley is the worst of the worst. I certainly would like to see him |

defeated. I'm also in the 1st district and I have decided to go with Peter Sullivan. He makes some very clear and logical points on his Web site and I think he's got the right ideas.
I also think we have a chance to unseat Charlie Bass with another Paul Hodes run. I'm a firm believer in second chances if they are deserved and I think Hodes is up to the task.
