All over New Hampshire enthusiastic Democrats joined together Thursday night to celebrate Obama's nomination and to watch him deliver his acceptance speech. In the Lakes Region, at least four "Convention Watch Parties" were held - in Laconia, Sanbornton, Meredith and Barnstead - the heart of what was Republican territory.
Obama Acceptance Speech Hailed By Local Dems is an account of the evening's festivities and features some photos of the events. An excerpt:
LACONIA - Seven months having passed since New Hampshire voters cast their ballots in the Presidential Primary, local Democrats were viewing with anticipation the final night of the Democratic National Convention.
"We've been waiting for months for this night to arrive and now that it's here everyone is so excited and can't wait to hear Barack Obama's speech," said Rep. Beth Arsenault, an early endorser of Obama's candidacy. "There is so much anxiety in the country about the economy, the war, the health care crisis, the energy crisis, the mortgage crisis - a litany of problems that represent the true legacy of the Bush administration and failed Republican leadership.'
"We're desperate for change," she added, "and Barack Obama promises the kind of change that will rekindle America's faith in itself and its future."
