Just got back from doing a Post Debate visibility in Plaistow, NH. |
|
If you are unfamiliar with Plaistow, politically it's a little to the right of Texas. It was only Hubby and me standing on the side of the main Route thru town, and we were afraid it would look a little weak. Wow, the positive response was UNBELIEVABLE. Literally 10 to 1 Kerry. Interestingly only saw 2 Kerry Bumper Stickers on all the cars, (not counting ours of course.) Got thumbs ups, waves, honks and light flashes from every type of vehicles, from Semi's to School Buses, really scary looking pick ups to Mercedes, and one well dressed businessman, (coat & tie, in a nice sedate sedan) rolls his window down and yells, "send him back to Texas". Was at HQ last night watching the debate and was talking to some of the people who work for Kerry, I was told New Hampshire is the race which is too close to call. After our experience this morning, I only have two words: President Kerry.
If you haven't done a visibility, what are you waiting for? We had so much fun, and are positively vibrating with excitement. We are doing this again, and soon!

1. Wow, there's hope for NH! |
|
I'm familiar with the area-I have relatives in Haverhill-and it's hard to believe that it's onl;y 30 miles from Boston. It's redneck central up there.
i have been joking that if NH votes for Bush again, we should extract it from New England and insert it between Mississippi and Alabama. But I think Kerry will take the state!

this is great, Shoeempress. I grew up in Groveland, MA - so I'm familiar with that area. Plaistow and a lot of those small southern NH towns are so right wing - maybe not as bad as Carroll County (the most Republican county in the state) but pretty darned redneck.
Good news - and congratulations to you and your husband for being brave enough to stick yourselves and your signs out there, that takes a lot of courage in a small town.

Plaistow isn't as right wing as you seem to think. It has been trending steadily Democratic in recent years, particularly when the Dems run a strong, moderate candidate like Shaheen or Swett. The old crowd, the swamp yankees with Elmer Fudd hats, have been fading away to be replaced by Mitsubishi driving software jockies.
Newton has always been a somewhat friendly place for Democrats; Bob Preston and Bev Hollingworth always did well there. Kingston and Atkinson, however, remain death pits for some reason.

hubby and I thought we were the only Dem's in town, but have been meeting other like minded individuals who have lived her along time. In addition, lots of Massholes, like us, are moving in here. And trust me, we are resented.
