C'mon! The proposed largest mall to be located in the heart of Bergen County?!
Blue Laws!
If Paramus Park, the Fashion Center, and the Garden State Mall, not to mention all the stores on Route 17 and Route 4 can't sell stuff on Sunday, neither can all those stores in American Dream@Meadowlands.
Is this Christie's grand scheme to finally get rid of Bergen's blue laws on behalf of all the stores who regularly lobby for the extinction?

1. It is just a bad idea. |

Are they kidding?
Truly and really -- are they kidding?
I live not far from there. They are talking about pumping a billion dolars more into this thing to get it to open.
Part of it collapsed over the winter and it turns out the parking lot is sinking --- was there or wasn't there a problem when they were footing the parking lot over at the old Giants Stadium? I recall that there was a footing problem.
What happened to the setback rule?
If you are building a deck or expanding your home, there is a rule that says that you can only build whatever it is within a certain number of feet of the neighboring property. The building is literally right up against the highway; who permitted that to happen?
Who permitted it to be built on proctected wetlands???
The building isn't structually sound; I suggested that the building be refitted for classroom space and that the local post secondary schools can lease the classroom space -- nope; bulldoze this thing and let the land go back to being marsh and meadows.
BTW, the thing is built on state owned land; blue laws will be exempt.
If this mall opens and it manages to sell goods, it will drain revenue from the other malls -- and there are many within an hours' drive.
My guess is that if it opens, people will go there for the novelty of it -- that should be for about 6 months -- and after that, it will be a white elephant nobody will shop in.
It's just a bad idea. Very bad.

2. just like it's Daddy Christie. Way too big, won't create jobs and great for the rich! |

Leave it to Chris Christie to make a bad situation twice as big and bad. However, it would be cool to roll him down that stupid indoor ski slope!
