Heather was here, I said nothing & I'm feeling bad for that |
|
Heather was here in Alamogordo last week. I sat in a room with about 20 people and said nothing. In my head, I was saying, "So you called David Iglesias, a US attorney--how can we trust you now?" or "Since you didn't find torture, denying Habeas corpus, and lies to justify the war against the Iraqi people grounds for impeachment, what would Bush & Cheney have to do for you to vote for impeachment?" but I thought that sounded too churlish, too sarcastic and I want to take the higher ground. So I now have thought of calmer ways of expressing my horror at what she has voted for, but I couldn't then. And now I feel bad for remaining quiet while we had folks telling her that we need more missiles, but the constitution doesn't mention health care so we should not vote for health care, even for kids. I am making a commitment to speak out on our local right-wing radio shows and speak even if I don't feel comfortable. I don't want my silence to appear to be approval. But I'm nervous about speaking (even when I call in on radio shows, my hands shake, my breathing speeds up)--I know I can't improve unless I just do it.

the poll numbers I've been seeing of Udall vs. Wilson certainly look encouraging...but I'm nervous about the local MSM pumping (or pimping) her up as the rightful heir to "everyone's" beloved "St. Pete". BTW, welcome to NM, former AZdem.....(and welcome to DU to duhneece).

4. Sine we know that she isn't about cheating . . . |

we can never take anything for granted. We need to treat this like a closely contended battle for the Senate seat.

You weren't to shy to speak up here, and this counts. Write a letter to the editor or other discussion boards online. AND you have the folks in DU to talk to you when you feel isolated from others who share your points of view. We don't all agree here, but we are mostly coming from a similar place, that being totally disgusted with what has happened during the reign of King George II.

DU has been my major source of news, information, sense of connection* for several years, but hadn't used it as to express my personal sense of not-doing-enough so that I can actually do more. I'm so glad I did. That being quiet when Heather was here really bothered me. I've written several letters to the editor of the Alamogordo Daily News and a couple to the El Paso Times. I am so grateful to have y'all to turn to.
*I did start becoming active in the local Democratic Party five-six years ago and helped start a local Peace/Justice group. And still, at moments, felt pitifully alone.

to speak out in the midst of those who might/will disagree. However, I think when we do speak our truth, we feel better about ourselves. How about pre-planning what and how to say it? I wish you well. (Support from the Northern regions to you :)) )

7. Where in the North are you? |
|
I grew up in Santa Fe, but moved to Albuquerque in the 1970s. After researching my ancestry I find that most my family moved to the Rio Abajo even before the Pueblo Revolt or in the early 1700s, so I guess I'm back where I belong. I do miss the north though, but have been spoiled by the warmth in Albuquerque. Perfection would be being able to look at one window and seeing the Sangre de Cristo Mts., looking out another window and seeing the Sandia Mts. and finally having a third window to look out and see the Rio Grande.

You have young minds to indoctrinate in the A.M. with your liberal hippie propaganda... And if you and your liberal hippie cohort at work fail to show up and dance the night away to Cadillac Bob at the El Rey this Friday night, I will be obligated to report all of you to Agent Mike...

be me on the 18th? And every month I have about a week when I turn into a werewolf and howl at the moon. I can't get to sleep before 12:00 am and I'm fine the next day. The only problem is a few days later I turn back into a human again and I'm exhausted from the lack of sleep. I love between 11:00pm and 3:00am.
