The Rail Runner is historic in New Mexico. And the state owns the track all of the way to Trinidad, CO. A trip this far north ought to be offered at least once a year. Communities along the way could coordinate events.

2. A conductor on the Rail Runner told me today that the company |
|
that owns the Rail Runner wants it to go from Taos to Los Cruces and will ask the state legislature to seek federal funding to offset the cost. This is hearsay, but it sounded good. From my selfish standpoint, I want the Rail Runner to go south to Socorro, but I know that the best financial interest of the Rail Runner is to head even farther north (to Taos) because of the tourists.

Resurrecting the old Chile Line route along the west side of the river. I was looking at that old train bed yesterday. It would take a lot of work! It won't be any time soon, but it would be very cool. I'd go to Santa Fe on it!

4. Actually, I was amazed at the short amount of time it took |

for the extension to reach Santa Fe. The section from hwy 550 to Santa Fe was completed in record time; in my drives to Pecos I saw the track being laid and tested, etc.

5. That's true. It did go fast. |

I did a lot of driving to ABQ last year, and I watched that stretch between Santa Fe and ABQ go from a dust storm to a train in just a few months, it seemed like. I came up after dark once just after 5, and the train was packed going to ABQ! That was so exciting!

6. It's especially impressive after dark! |

When I get off at the station on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, I often stand and wait so I can watch it roar off into the night!
Can you tell how much I love this train?
