Roswell, Carlsbad and Hobbs are o.k. for bigger towns, Artesia is a small town.

If you want a town that is quickly growing with new business and opportunities, Hobbs is for you. I grew up there when it was a oilfield town, on its way out after the oil boom bottomed out. Now it is starting fresh with new business, a casino, racetrack, its on its way back up.
As for Carlsbad, I haven't been there in a couple of years. More tourism type stuff there, Carlsbad Caverns, Living Desert zoo, the river area.
If you really want to see some pretty SE scenery, go 1 hour NW of Roswell to Ruidoso; mountains, pines, different than the hot dry area in SE NM.
Thanks for the welcome to DU! It's good to be here. Carly

5. Is Alamogordo too far west for you? |
|
We are south central. It seems to me that everything east of Las Cruces is extraordinarily conservative...Roswell is about the same size of Alamgordo, but Roswell has more violence, more murders, more gangs. I've read your posts often and would love to see you helping us here in Otero County!

6. I fell in love with Carlsbad this weekend |

the Pecos River is wonderful and there is an Eddy county Democratic Party and the Chair seems like a great guy. We actually will probably end up in the little town of Loving (or actually just outside of it) which is 25 miles south of Carlsbad. We are looking for a VERY rural spot
Alamogordo is too high in elevation for us and a bit bigger than what we hoped for. also I have to admit the thought of being that close to the Trinity site gives me the heebee jeebies :tinfoilhat:
I will say that Lincoln was wonderful though... that whole river valley was beautiful but wouldn't work for us as the canyon is too deep for my DH to practice his astronomy
