ITHACA -- <snip>
Alex Rakow, a member of the Redbud Woods Working Group, said on Thursday that protesters are engaged in "ongoing negotiations" with the university on the condition that both sides refrain from sharing details publicly. <snip>
On Monday, when contractors arrived to start clearing some foliage, protesters occupied tree stands and locked into cement blocks buried in the ground in the woods. The university temporarily halted construction on Tuesday to address safety concerns that stemmed from having trespassers in a construction zone, officials said.
Sleeping bags and tarps remained at the camps on Friday, but protesters occupied a stand only in a tree closest to the sidewalk on University Avenue. A growing number of signs, with slogans such as "does beauty matter?" dotted the ground below.
A protester who goes by the name "Psyrx" sat in the stand early Friday afternoon and said he had been training more people to climb. <snip>
