I have disliked cops ever since the 1968 Chicago police riot. They are all so full of themselves and so right wing that it stretches my tolerance to concede that some of them may just be trying to do a job. The subway searches have ended the detente and I am back to despising them.
Now I've discovered their weakness. They have to be polite! Now I give them all kinds of shit as I stall around fumbling with the bag they shouldn't be searching anyhow. As these unwelcome encounters continue, I am getting better at maintaining my composure, and I'm better able to get off provocative lines. Today I told off a sergeant but good.
"Officer, have you even read the Constitution? The plain language of the Fourth Amendment forbids what you are doing. You are breaking the law."

1. Sorry, but that is just dumb |

You want to break balls? Call the mayor's office and break balls. Call one police plaza and break balls.
Why break the chops of uniform cop just doing his job.

No . . . it's more than that. If they were just doing their job they wouldn't treat ordinary law-abiding citizens like criminals. That's what the real problem is.
Oh, by the way . . . there are lots of female cops, have you heard?

LOL, I have heard something about this. LOL
So, why not call the mayor's office?
Why not call One Police Plaza?
Better yet, show up there and voice your complaints as you do to the police officers.
You can always walk into your local Precient and speak to the Desk Sgt. or the Duty captain.

4. The mayor might argue that he is "just doing his job" |
|
The fact that you get paid to do something doesnt absolve you from responsibility for your actions. If cops dont want to hear complaints they can lobby the department to change the unconstitutional policy.

Why lobby the people that can not change the procedure? Why not lobby the people that can?
Go to One Police Plaza.
Go to the Mayor's Office.
If the mayor doesn't do what you want, you can vote him out!

6. That is a seperate issue. But I certainly agree. |

Of course, lobby the policy makers, but that doesnt relate to whether or not one should hold his/her tongue whilest being illegally searched.
