Democratic activists expect Michael A. Arcuri, 46, the Oneida County district attorney since 1993, to win the Sept. 12 primary. Republicans are looking to five-term state Sen. Raymond A. Meier, 53, to be their nominee. Rothenberg said Meier could be formidable because, as a mainstream Republican, he might enjoy stronger support from conservatives than did Boehlert, who often irritated his party's right.
