"Free trial of the NY Sun" -- no choice? |
|
I got a piece of mail the other day. Junk mail really, which is rare because I am on a junk buster list. It informs me, not asks, that I will have the rediculous New York Sun plonked in front of my door every day for 13 weeks. Free papers are a dime a dozen in this city* and the last one I would want to see is the freakin Sun.
I really don't want to see it there. I am not a person who feels any need to know what Rush Limbaugh, Savage, Coulter, O'Reilly, Ted Nugent, David Duke, Kid Rock, Fox News, etc are saying. And I really don't want to start my day by picking up and taking to the recycling bin a copy of the over-the-top RW NY Sun.
The good news is they have my apartment number wrong -- wrong floor, wrong unit -- but I don't even want my poor neighbor to have to look at their crap (or think that I WANT it).
I don't think they will stop if I ask them to so I am wondering if there is a way to set them up so they are breaking some law? Littering? Harrassment? "Do Not Call" list fine. etc.
Any thoughts?

you could return them to the distribution center or mark each on return to sender and put them in the mail box.

anti-harrassment laws in NYC then probably send them certified mail demanding that they stop. I see this: A U.S. Federal law gives you the power to stop any non-governmental organization from sending you further mail. You can download a copy or Form 1500 or ask for a copy to be mailed to you by telephoning a major Post Office in your area. Fill it out (it's very short), attach it to one of their opened letters, and lodge it at any Post Office. The form was originally intended to stop pornographic junk mail, but the Supreme Court of the United States has affirmed your right to stop any mail that you don't want. If the company continues to send you mail or sell your name they risk being prosecuted as criminals. Burnett comments that with this move ``name removal is virtually assured.'' (They will still store your name in their databases, but they are unlikely to continue renting it.) http://www.junkbusters.com/self.html#prohibitBut this isn't mail per se so not sure that that applies. I found others with the same problem: http://www.gawker.com/news/new-york-sun/sun-adopts-innovative-new-youknowyouwantit-circ-strategy-151822.php
