Girl, 12, Charged in City Robberies

(Rochester, N.Y.) – Vernice Warfield has had many roles in life - pastor, foster mother, volunteer.

Rev. Warfield was standing outside her son’s house on King Street when she was approached by a 12-year-old girl.

“She said, ‘Will you give me a dollar?’ I said, ‘You're not homeless. I'm not going to give you a dollar.’ I said, ‘What can you do with a dollar?’”

“I knew she was lying. I said, ‘You’re possessed.’ I said, ‘The devil really has you tied down, child.’ I said, ‘I’m going to call my son and see if we can pray for you.’”

Police say the girl had help. They arrested Timothy C. Smith, 17 and charged him with robbery and grand larceny.
