Mark Green seeks NYC public advocate job again |
|
(AP) - Former New York City public advocate Mark Green says he'll run again for that office. The Democrat declared his intentions to NY1. Mr. Green appears regularly on the TV station's "Wiseguys" political segment. Incumbent Betsy Gotbaum has said she won't seek another term. Mr. Green held the office from 1994 to 2001 http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20090210/FREE/902109995sigh...

1. I'll buy that. Too bad he doesn't make another mayoral... |
|
... run.
Imagine: a supersmart, honest guy with energy and integrity who attacks and resolves REAL problems.
But "We get the kind of government we deserve"... and we seem to deserve Bloomberg instead.

2. Um, you don't think Mark is contemplating a Mayoral run AFTER this... |
|
...and when Bloomberg is conveniently out of the way.

3. Bloomberg may NEVER be out of the way. |
|
His mother is a hundred and seventy years old, he's inherited 50% of her genes, has unlimited money and there is little reason to think that NY voters will grow more discerning and politically sophisticated as the years pass and plenty of reasons to think they will grow less so. ( E.g If Murdoch or Bloomberg himself buys the NY Times, for example.)
Hard to think that Green, already 63 years old, is waiting around for Bloomie to kick or be elevated to higher office given that set of circumstances. He's smarter than that. I think he just wants to be public advocate cause he enjoys the limelight and is good at the job.
Ironically, Green, head and shoulders above the rest of the media-designated DEM mayoral wannabees , is the only member of the crew that would have even a remote chance against the Bloomster's billions. The other guys are auditioning for cabinet appointments....or for $$$ jobs "in the private sector", as Bloomberg said of non-candidate Chris Quinn.
