Any good Beach resort recommendations?

I'm looking to go to the beach over the Labor Day week. Anybody stayed anywhere in NC or SC recently that they really enjoyed? I'm looking primarily at large resorts simply for security and ease of planning but if you've loved a small cottage, I'd take a look.

1. We really liked Litchfield SC

We stayed there in May (during Bike Week :eyes:). We usually stay in N Myrtle but figured we'd miss most of the bike crowd if we stayed farther south. It was wonderful. Really wide beaches, very quiet at night. Draws an older crowd.

I used to stay in N Myrtle many years ago and still have an aunt in Cherry Grove, but I wanted it to just be me and the surf this year. :-)

I'm pretty sure they have condos on the property too. We stayed in the hotel part and were very happy. It's right on the beach and they had two pools, a casual restaurant and a pricey fancy restaurant. There's also a breakfast place near by on the main road (walking distance) --EggsUP Grill I think it's called. Great food, and very reasonable (kinda christian conservative, though but we didn't mind too much because the food was so good). Best corned beef hash I've ever had.

If you do go, a word of caution about the Fish House next to the Eggs Up Grill...Fish House is a RIP OFF. Big time. It's a tourist trap.

We'll probably go back very soon, might even go back in a couple of weeks. Had a great time.

4. The next time you visit.

Check out St. James in Southport, NC. My ex-gf had a condo there. The security is pretty good.

Southport is 45 minutes north of Myrtle Beach and 35 minutes south of Wilmington.

5. I LOVE the Outerbanks

We just got back from there and have been going for 16 years. There is a really nice, quiet community called Pirates Cove you might want to check on. Lots of realty companies that have small to very large houses. We have two families that go so we always rent a large house. The sound side is just beautiful. Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

FYI) Dare county just opened up a real nice Democrat headquarters for the first time and we stopped in....lovely ladies working and very informative. I believe it was in Kill Devil Hills.

6. Pawley's Island

7. Every spring we go to Oak Island.

I don't think they have any resorts. We rent a house on the beach. It's quiet and the beach doesn't have tons of people on it. We love it there. It is very relaxing.

9. I live on the Outer Banks -

not a lot of large resorts around. Mainly (for rentals) private cottages ranging from small to ginormas. When folks around here want to get away, we head down to Ocracoke Island. It has a beautiful beach (all National Park Service land) and a quaint little village that tends to be very liberal leaning. There is also tons of live music to be found. Some very talented folks live there. I'm going for a week in September and I can't wait!

10. Ocracoke Island - my all time favourite beach spot.

I love it purely because it isn't one of those flashy beach resorts with everything. Plug for Edwards of Ocracoke - good place to stay. Excellent place if all you want is a bit of peace and quiet. If I could afford it, I'd live there. My guesses why I don't live there is because a) I wasn't born there or have family there already, b) I don't have lots of money already, c) I don't have a job that could support me on the island, d) I probably have too many ties to where I am right now anyway.

But Ocracoke - ****ing beautiful.

I haven't been down there since I was a wee tot. ;-)

Somewhere in the closet, there are slides of my 4 yo self looking out at the water through the metal mesh fence on the Swan Quarter Ferry. :D I remember being really caught up in all the Blackbeard lore on that vacation, and I haven't let it go since. :-)

Glad to know it's still a good place.

We go in September, so rates are a bit lower. Actually, compared to the northern OBX beaches, rates are almost always lower than they are up here. The Ocracoke Realty website features tons of cottages. We've stayed in several different ones.
