What the heck is it with News 14? |
|
GOP ads galore. Haven't seen any Obama or Hagan or any Democratic Party political advertising on this station. Now they're basic cable - I mean "basic basic" ...
or is it possible for one side to literally buy up all the available advertising space on a channel?
Thoughts? Mark.

1. Wow, sounds like our local "Fox" |
|
channel. :eyes:
I dunno, since I get DirecTV.
Is it just certain times of day? Like morning drive time? Seems unlikely the GOP would buy up all their ad time.

4. News 14 is Time Warner Cable's news channel... |
|
....advertising is likely less expensive than regular broadcast rates, and of course, there is the political common ground....

2. Probably cheap because they are pretty low-budget. I doubt |
|
There are a whole lot of people watching at any on time. WRAL and WTVD dominate the local news, from what I recall.

7. I avoid getting my news by watching News 14. |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 07:49 PM by Jamastiene
I'm still miffed at the fact that they advertise as "your local news" yet it still is nothing but another Charlotte based channel. We have tons of those already. That is nothing against Charlotte at all. I adore Charlotte, but they have a ton of channels already. They are good channels. I'm not knocking them either, but they already have so many channels. It's not like we need another one claiming to be "your" local news when I can't afford to live in Charlotte. It is not "my" local news. x(
So, I avoid News 14 already. I'm not surprised they play nothing but right wing crap though. Goes along with the rest of the crap they play. All crap all day long. I'd rather watch WBTV (channel 3) than any other channel we have on basic cable. That is all we have in my house; basic cable. We cannot afford the upper channels. So, WBTVV and WSOC get a lot of our attention when we are not watching LMN.

I think they probably still break it down by what division of cable serves a general area for this state. In other words, there are a lot of Raleigh and Charlotte stations. Also, there are Greensboro (although it has been a long time since I have seen those) and Fayetteville stations as well.
I'm thinking they just play whatever large city's version of News14 is closest to your local division of cable. They still should not claim it is "your local news" if they are really just another station for the bigger cities.
Interesting question you asked. I'd be interested to know if Time Warner serves most of the state as a monopoly or if there is more than one "cablevision" distributor in the state.

8. I have better things to do than watch the same news every 5 minutes |
|
Heck, the only thing that channel is good for is to see what the temperature is outside. Otherwise, I stay away from News 14 like the plague.
My roommate in college watched it religiously, and I still just don't understand how she could watch the same thing, over and over.

11. It is amazing to know that a (probably) million dollar TV channel |
|
could be replaced by a $.99 dollar store thermometer, isn't it?
It is waaaay too repetitive for me. It's monotonous.
