Have You Voted Early For Obama?
Went to the local library on Wednesday and voted myself. In and out inside of 12 minutes (the advantage of a small town). I have to admit I voted McCrory for Governor though. Just something I don't like about Perdue, both in the primary (voted for Moore) and the main race.

1. That's too bad - I'm not a Bev fan but:
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 12:08 PM by kick-ass-bob
"McCrory's plans make the status quo look pretty good: He's for private school vouchers, supports amending the state constitution to discriminate against gays, is for ending health-care "mandates" that require insurance plans to cover specific procedures (mastectomies, for example), and promises to launch off-shore drilling with only the most perfunctory consideration of environmental impacts."

Anyone who wants to amend a Constitution to take away rights is an idiot.

2. as of 8 pm tonight
October 24th 8 pm, 1,088,825 of 6 million registered NC voters have cast their ballot in absentee and early voting--980,000 in early voting.

Of the 1.2 million registered African-Americans in NC, over 250,000 have already cast their vote.

We're on pace for a record turnout! And, it's only been one week. Another week of early voting is left.

9. A Gop Governor is bad for voters rights and will create gridlock in the legislature
A GOP Governor will take control of the elections system.

The State Board of Elections is appointed by the Governor. There are 3 of the Governor's party and 2 of the minority party. They rule on election matters.

Then there is the non partisan Director of Elections. He is a 12 year democratic party and he does a great job and is fair to everyone.

At each county is a similar set up, with 2 of the governor's party and 1 of the minority for each county BOE. Then there is a non partisan County Election Director.

A republican governor would flip the majority the other way, and next time you wanted to vote you would see less early voting sites, it would be easier to oppress voters.

Our Current SBOE stood up to the US DOJ's John Tanner when he tried to push them into doing unfair voter purges.

A GOP Governor would be more likely to veto good legislation and sign bad legislation.

I hope not too many people made this choice, or we are very very screwed in alot of ways.

19. Voted yesterday in Boone
My partner and I arrived at about 3:30 and there was no one else there at the moment! By the time we left there was a line and several people at the booths voting. I was voter number 3,370 at that particular place. There are 5 early voting sites in the county. The workers did a great job reminding people to vote separately for President, and they even handed out a little yellow piece of paper with a reminder. The lady who checked me in said that about 15,000 people had already voted early in Watauga County. Watauga has a fantastic Democratic Party, and they have called me five or six times this cycle: real people, not robo-calls. Elizabeth Dole was in town earlier this week, and I got a robo-call from her. Guess where she held her "rally"? In the parking lot of the Golden Corral! I had to laugh when I heard that! The local Republicans are a joke. They still have a slim majority in voter registration in the county, but they did not field a single candidate for county commissioner this year. What a bunch of losers! Anyway, it felt really good to cast my vote for Obama, Hagan, and Perdue. When we left we had to fight our way through the traffic on the ASU campus, since people were already tailgating for the football game last night. There were a lot of Obama signs spread throughout the tailgaters!

20. took 2 1/2 hours in line. i got out of the hospital 8pm night before, they amputated my hand, but
with sufficient pain meds it wasn't too bad, my wife just had a hip replacement was on her walker. i wanted her to get out and around.. the next day she felt 10X better, has been scoot'n around without the walker lately. it was such a beautiful morning, we were at the edge of a wooded area and the trees were turning colors.

a nice Democrat Volunteer gave us Judge Suggestions, appreciated that.. i walked down to Starbucks and got us coffee, and one for the nice volunteer.

Even voted for David Price, who has been such a disappointment. Yeah, David, way to hold the Bush administration's feet to the fire on the bailout.

23. Saturday
Waited about 90 minutes at Triangle Town Center in Raleigh to cast my ballot. Voted straight Dem - even though I prefer to color in each little bubble rather than just the "straight party" one. Voted for all of the Dem Judges, also.

Can't wait to see how this one goes. It feels good so far, but never want to get over confident and jinx it.

26. yep
I colored each little bubble - and not just the straight party one. I was happy to see, though, that the election workers were really making sure that they were informing everyone that a "straight party" vote did not include president. Color me impressed.

Thank you! :)

28. Obama will probably win NC!!
I now think that Obama will absolutely win North Carolina!

I ran a few numbers. First, you can get the early vote stats here.

1) 2.6 million voters have already voted.

2) 51.5% are Dems, 30.1% Repub, 18.5% Ind.

3) Assuming the Independents broke 60/40 for McCain (generous)...

4) That gives us 1.5 million Obama, 1.0 million McCain (also assuming people voted their party - which could actually go either way).

5) There are now 6.2 million registered voters. Assuming a 70% turnout (extraordinarily generous and unlikely), subtracting the early voters, and giving McCain 60% (very generous) of the votes tomorrow...

6) That gives us about 2.2 million Obama to 2.14 million McCain.

This does not even take into account the fact that Registered Dems outnumber Registered Repubs by 800,000.
