Taking a trip to Wilmington |
|
I'm taking a trip to Wilmington for a weekend later this month. Does anyone have any suggestions for restaurants to eat lunch & dinner at? anything we *must* do while there? :hi:

1. I don't have specific recommendations, but definitely visit Front St and surrounding area |
|
lots of restaurants and shops there. Don't miss it! If you like smelly stuff like perfume oils and such don't miss Down to Earth Oils at the Cotton Exchange http://www.downtoearthoils.comEnjoy!

3. the azaleas should be in bloom--try Airlie, have beer on sound, then go downtown |

My family goes back to colonial Wilmington (with all of the racial guilt that entails, I'm afraid.) It breaks my heart to see the horrid development that's overtaken the place.
I played in Airlie as a child (it was in the woods next to our family property). It's now a county park with live music on weekends. That's about the only good news about that area on down--that the Corbett's donated Airlie to the county. You can boat up to it too.
Wilmington's great because it's got riverfront, soundfront, and oceanfront ecosystems. But when I go now, which is rare, I tend to hang out at the cafes and restaurants on the riverfront. Check out the Cotton Exchange. Wish I knew of the latest cool places, but I'll say I thought Elijahs on the Riverfront had really gone downhill, so I'd avoid that one.
PS: Don't speed or get a parking ticket at Wrightsville Beach. They are Nazis.
Have fun!!
