all those "get well" ads for Sanford, b/c he was in the hsopital at the time with endocarditis.

The "get well" ads for a great big "fuck you" to Terry Sanford.

:grr:

I never forgave the GOPiggies for that.

25. Vote went as I expected, but a couple of strange things
Almost all the local orgs that can produce GOV efforts had lined up in support of Elaine. Cal seemed to have nothing significant except phone banks, robocalls, a few TV ads. I am in Chapel Hill and saw only a few TV ads, but from comments by others, I have the impression he ran more ads in the western half of the state -- Greensboro, WS, Charlotte.

I am surprised at just how low the turnout counties like Mecklenburg vs those in the Triangle and down east.

I was the 12th person to vote in my polling place here in Richmond County. I couldn't believe how quiet and empty it was.

Gratz to Elaine Marshall. I love it when my choice wins.

29. You also once thought we had no chance of unseating Dole, IIRC
Of course, the election's months away, and it's not in-the-bag for anybody

But I think there are reasons for optimism

Burr won a statewide election in 2004, while Marshall won statewide elections in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008

I understand that as a Cunningham supporter you are disappointed he did not garner the nomination. He was an attractive candidate in many ways and much loved by the inside-the-DC-beltway crowd. But he never won a statewide election. And the inside-the-DC-beltway crowd doesn't have a good record picking Senate winners for NC: I remember they twice picked Erskine Bowles, who went down in flames both times

30. Look at photos of Marshall and Burr side by side.
I don't think there's any hope of unseating Burr in NC. Doesn't have anything to do with Dole vs Hagan. If anything, the Hagan victory makes it tougher on Marshall.

32. What are you trying to say?
You clearly seem to be stating that someone who doesn't pass some type of physical criteria should not be running for office. So, who does this exactly preclude people of a certain age, weight, height, are women of a certain age automatically excluded from running for office. As for Ms. Marshall she is a perfectly attractive woman. Are you kidding?
