Cleveland County can't get rid of Sheriff Hamrick fast enough
... Cleveland County Sheriff Raymond Hamrick ... lost the Democratic primary to his captain, Alan Norman. In a clear vote of no-confidence, Hamrick won only 2 percent of the vote in that primary. Voters elected Norman sheriff in the November general election.
Now, just three weeks before Norman takes office, Hamrick has fired him and three deputies who are on Norman's transition team. Hamrick said he was only enforcing department policy. He said Norman and the deputies were conducting interviews with staff at the Cleveland Mall last week. Hamrick said he saw patrol cars at the mall and that the deputies should have driven their personal cars. He also said some of the deputies "were checking on-duty and going out there."
... But Hamrick gave his permission for Norman to do the interviews. Hamrick admits that but says he didn't know the deputies would be involved. Norman and the deputies said Hamrick had approved the whole thing ...
