NC IOM has cruched the numbers and finds that many counties across the state have shockingly high uninsured rates. The recession has clearly increased the number of people living without insurance in 2008 and 2009.
In several counties 1 out of every 4 residents is uninsured.After an initial glance it looks like Tyrrell County has the highest uninsured rate at 28.8 percent with Hyde County close behind at 26.8 percent.
Mecklenberg County has a surprisingly large percentage of uninsured at 20.1 percent. And even in Wake, a traditionally well insured county, 18.4 percent of the population lives without adequate access to health care.
