http://www.newsobserver.com/print/tuesday/front/story/2704978p-9142400c.htmlGrier Martin is one of my personal heroes. Grier came to my doorstep toward the end of the 2004 elections to describe his platform and personally ask for my vote. He didn't have any handlers with him; he just walked up my driveway all by himself, rang my doorbell, and talked to me straight up, one-on-one, as a fellow North Carolinian. We talked about our common concerns for our toddler children, and we talked about our love for our great state and our great country.
I was flabbergasted that he would do such a thing--spending his time personally canvasing within 2 weeks of the elections?!? Of course I took a yard sign from him, immediately put it in my yard, and told him he could count on my vote and my vocal support--but I then told him to keep walking so he could talk to more of my north Raleigh neighbors, who were much less likely to vote his way. Obviously his efforts were successful.
You can bet that you'll hear much more about Grier Martin in the coming years. I'm proud to say that I helped elect him to the NC House in my own small way, and I encourage all of you to support him. He is a shining example of the success that can come from being a young candidate who is principled, honorable, and true to honest progressive values.
Thank you, Grier Martin!
