Monday in Chapel Hill: "How do we Get Out of Iraq" Public Forum
After an incredibly successful March on Washington on Sept 24, in which over 1,500 people from NC participated, over 40 NC residents stayed to lobby their Representatives and Senators on Sept 26. Representative David Price will appear in a public debate / forum next week, entitled:

How Do We Get Out of Iraq? "Stay the Course" vs. "Out Now"

Monday, October 10th 2005 7:30 - 9:30 pm
Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The Orange County Democratic Party is presenting a Public Issue Forum on Monday, October 10 at Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, NC from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Discussing this critical and nationally divisive issue will be:

  • David Price, US Congressman, Fourth District, NC

  • Sarah Shields, UNC Professor of History, Islamic Civilization

  • Ray McGovern, former CIA analyst, spanning administrations from John F. Kennedy to George H. W. Bush, now co-director of the Servant Leadership School

  • Bruce Jentleson, former Director of the Terry Sanford Institute, Chair of Department of Public Policy Studies, Duke University.

Forum Goals: The goal of the OCDP Public Issue Forum is to educate citizens in the North Carolina Fourth Congressional District about the alternatives for withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, focusing on realistic scenarios and their consequences and to provide a forum for public discussion of this critical foreign policy issue. Sponsored by: The Democratic Party of Orange, Chatham, Durham and Wake Counties. Additional speaker background information and OCDP staff interviews are available.

Location:
Chapel Hill High School Chapel Hill North Carolina 27514

Be There!

I was in DC on 9/26 to lobby Rep. Price with United for Peace and Justice to . The staffers who met with us were thoughtful and somewhat receptive, but said that Rep. Price isn't quite convinced yet that "staying the course" is doing more harm than good.[br />
So be there on Monday to give him your reasons!

6. I didn't get to go, but heard a brief report on WCHL
About 500 people attended; lots of applause and participation; David Price had a brief sound bite, saying he wasn't surprised at the crowd, that "this has been an important issue in this community for a long time, and we probably would have had this big a crowd a year ago or two years ago", paraphrasing.
