A heads-up for everyone in NC... |
|
...the freeperdom from Florida, unwilling to pay increasing property taxes and refusing to deal with "outsiders," meaning everyone else who isn't a religious whacko, seems to be selling out and moving to your state, no joke. I'm in Volusia County, a Blue County, but there are freepers at the end of our street selling their home and moving to NC, my teacher has a son in the Marines (career) plus an uncle in Iraq, and a "classmate" who I posted an excerpt from some time ago on Florida's page under the heading "The Typical Florida Right-Wing Nut Job. These other two cases live in Brevard County. I don't know why they are choosing your state, but just be ready for an influx of assholes soon. I am so sorry they couldn't go to Utah.

1. They've been moving to the mountains for years |
|
I remember my college friend whom I visited in Clearwater, FL in 1984. Her parents had bought a house in Brevard and they spent the summers there rather than bake in FL.
I'm sure it's worse now, though.

the most popular bumpersticker (among the locals) showed a renewal on cars every summer:
GO BACK TO FLORIDA!
better than flipping 'em off when you passed them, b/c you always had to pass them .... always a caddie or lincoln continental, 2 white haired, very tanned, but shriveled old people, driving about 14 mph. . .

...in Charlotte:

....else, you'd know that New York actually went to the State of Mecklenburg.

3. I doubt we will get overrun |
|
we have a fairly high income tax here and Florida has none, which makes a big difference to many conservatives.

4. They didn't think of that... |
|
...last week, my teacher was talking about that-someone asked her how she was going to like paying state income tax, and she said that it still would be cheaper to live in NC, income tax and all, and she could afford a new and much bigger house (I think she's really stuck on the house part-she lives in a condo here, I think). And the pay's the same as FL too, she said.

7. Our pay probably is the same or maybe a bit better even |
|
but those taxes do add up. Sales tax is 7% with 2% on food. Income is 6%. Gas taxes are high. But on the upside we have better services than Florida does so that is a nice trade off. It should be noted they also will pay a property tax on their car, though Florida may do that too.

9. I think NC will be red for a long time to come. |
|
Not sure why but it just seems like we can't make it over the hump into sanity.

10. Drive 20 miles off the interstate corridors or out of urban areas |
|
And you'll see why. It's a regular "What's the Matter with Kansas?"-palooza.

14. NC has been red because of one thing |
|
not the literacy rate but
paperless electronic voting which spread like a disease to some of the largest counties, and half of the state, right in the 80s.
NC hasn't carried a Democratic Presidential candidate since Carter!
Now that we have our paper ballot law passed, if we can keep counties from buying DRES with the toilet paper ballot, we can keep our paper ballot law for 2008.
Your help needed.

12. They don't know about the personal property tax, do they? |
|
That might stop them. Not just STATE income tax, but NC also has personal property taxes.
I was born here in NC, lived in Fla half my life, and now live here again...in the middle of nowhere, near a town thats 20 miles off the interstate.
I love it, except for the fundies...
