Please pass this on --need as many folks in Guilford to ask questions.
Gilbert will be trying to handle "damage control" to his paperless voting machines by once again pushing vote centers. He wants to take Guilford County down from 1186 touchscreens to 400, and 170 precincts and early voting sites on election day to 40 vote centers.
He tried to get Rep Pricey Harrison to amend S 223 so that paper ballots would not be required, but we headed him off at the pass.
He is a member of the Election Center, and he pushes their anti paper agenda rabidly.
George Gilbert to address Guilford Democrats Oct 17, 6:00 PM
To: Democrats@guilforddems.org Subject: Town Hall Update from Paul Mengert, GCDP Chair Greetings, Democrats! This month's Town Hall Meeting will be held Monday, October 17, 6 p.m. at the Wendover & I-40 Golden Corral in Greensboro. George Gilbert, Guilford County Director of Elections, will be our speaker. He will review: *Changes in law taking place next year, which will have a significant impact on the Board of Elections; *New voting machines to meet disability access requirements and paper ballot requirements; *New requirements on reporting absentee and early votes by precinct; *Paper audit requirements; *Possible shift toward "voting centers" rather than precinct voting; and *An update on Trudy Wade's challenge of the 2004 election. Mr. Gilbert also will take questions from the audience. A large crowd is expected for this important meeting, so plan to arrive early! Please note: Due to Congressional scheduling, Congressman Brad Miller, who was originally scheduled for October 17, is being re-scheduled for a later date. why are you picking voting machines that print the ballot on a reel?
why since you told the Election Law Committee that was a horrible idea?
do you intend to continue your battle against VVPB?
why did you ask Rep Pricey Harrison to amend S 223 to allow non paper verification?
do you want to replace paper ballots with the VOTEHere device you brought to the state legislature with you in August 2005?
are you still a member of the Election Center, the group that accepts funding from Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia?
if the DREs with the reel ballot are so bad, why don't you save Guilford County $7 Million and buy optical scan instead?
why do you want the DREs that a Guilford County social worker for the blind said are inferior, she was concerned about the security of the reel ballot, and that she could not vote on independently?
