Although Duke Power Co. has chosen Gaffney, S.C., as the site for a proposed $6 billion nuclear plant, the company has also chosen a large tract of land in the Triad as a site for a potential reactor.
In an announcement Thursday, the Charlotte-based utility said that it will also consider a site in Davie County as a location for another potential future nuclear reactor.
The company will seek early site permit applications for the Davie County site, as well as another secondary site in Oconee County, S.C., which is next to an existing Duke nuclear plant.
The early permit application allows companies to do environmental and site suitability reviews, and obtain approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Authority before requesting a license to actually build and operate a nuclear plant. <snip>
