Organizers say Smithfield Packing out of Tarheel, N.C. puts workers in unsafe conditions.

The group of union members also say the company doesn't want workers to form a union.

By protesting in front of Harris Teeter, which sells Smithfield products, organizers hoped to educate shoppers to the situation.

Protest organizer Libby Manly said, "It's the kind of place where if you get injured you don't know if you're going to get worker's compensation. You might get fired if you're injured. If you talk about joining a union, it's the kind of place where you could face threats, intimidation, even violence." ...
