Is Congressman Miller in trouble? |
|
I was more than a little surprised not to mention appalled seeing Vernon Robinson campaign literature at my school's football game tonight. Assuming they did this at all Wake County games they spent some bucks. This follows a nearly desperate fundraising letter I got yesterday for Miller. Should I be worried here?

2. I suspect we got the same letter... |
|
I doubt that he's really in trouble... although hearing that they're out tabling at football games for the nutjob is a bit disturbing. I wonder if they're doing it at the more urban areas of wake county (raleigh, cary) or if it's just something that they're doing in the heavily red-leaning parts of the county.
It looks like they're going to have major bucks to blow on vernon robinson's campaign- who knows what filth will be spread around the region? :scared:

3. The letter was pretty scary |
|
It isn't too often an incumbent Congressman in his party's year has that kind of letter sent out on his behalf. Admittedly Knightdale is on the rural side and we were playing Wake Forest Rulesville which would be more of the same. I didn't see how the fliers were being handed out as I arrived early. I only saw the fliers with other people. Of course it was his usual bs about gays ruining the world.

4. I haven't been able to find any current polls either.... |
|
I just figured that since there was no recent polling data, that brad was a shoe-in, and they weren't bothering to poll so much.
Having seen Robinson's latest ad re: immigration evokes memories of the underhanded racist ads run by jesse helms years ago. Unfortunately these ads are so heinous to people like us, but it's also unfortunate that they're sometimes very effective.
He did pretty much the same thing when he tried to unseat an incumbent republican, and it didn't work. So let's keep our fingers crossed that people will be so turned off by this that he'll leave public life for good.

6. That was an open seat not an incumbent |
|
I think it was Burr's seat but he had run for Senate so he ran against the Fox woman who beat him 2 to 1. I figured given that result he was not to be worried about. Then I get this sky is falling letter and see Robinson fliers handed out in Wake County and am starting to wonder.

that's why I love this place. There's always someone to set you straight with the facts. I'm glad I made the mistake here, and not in discussion with a freeper. :hi:

12. He would be congressman today, if there hadn't been runoff election |
|
Robinson had more votes than Virginia Foxx, but there was a runoff election.
The white republicans got out to vote in force after Robinson made them mad by comparing Foxx to Hilary Clinton.
Foxx beat him in the runoff.
That was a close call.
He is funded by out of staters, like the Free Republic.
Hate sells, and there are people in Mecklenburg County that think you should own land if you want to vote.
Yes, be worried.
Its not about good, its about hate.

5. Yeah, definitely same letter. (crap!) |
|
I wonder how many of those fliers will be tossed on the ground in the areas surrounding the stadium area...
Also, that area of Wake (IIRC) is considered the reddest part of the county. (I think that it was even redder than out near E. Wake HS, could be wrong though...)
I'm not sure what to think- my first thought was to hope that this process was not repeated across the county....and then the other thought is that if it was repeated- it would be likely burn more money- and spend the money in a more wasteful manner- on people who will be more likely to toss the fliers.
I shall pass the message of the letter on to my "non-gay friends" in that district though. Perhaps I will even send something back in the envelope- As money is tight at the moment, I wasn't planning on donating (financially) to any campaign, but this may be a case where a whole bunch of little donations can add up big time.

7. I would bet quite a few |
|
they had the hand signals you see at a football game on one side and the bs message on the other. My school is actually quite close to East Wake. I would say maybe 3 miles apart and that is via 64/264. As the crow flies it is likely to be less.

spare coins we can give. A neighborhood in Raleigh was bombarded with leaflets from the KuKluxKlan blaming illeal Immigrants for mandatory year round shools and classroom crowing. The fliers claimed to have been distributed by an Arkansas based white supremacist group the "Knights Party," known to be code for KKK.
I have suspicions that Robinson is connected to this in some way and that the fliers were dropped in other areas but only the people in this neighborhood got angry enough to contact the News & Observer about it.
I heard that Brad is trying to target smaller markets first to get more bang for his buck and do some radio ads. His volunteers distributed over 1,500 signs and placed and they are all over Raleigh. It's great to see. I have one in my yard, too. There's a Vernon Robinson sign sitting in front of a Golf Course Mansion in a neighborhood in North Raleigh which kind of shows who might be funding him. :D Brad's signs are in every kind of neighborhood in Raleigh which shows broadbased support.

13. got any of the leaflets, or can you get them? |
|
if you can get the leaflets, maybe we can track the source down.
Or at least get more publicity.
I have my suspicions too.
I know you are good at research, heh heh.
