I just emailed Dole and Burr, asking them not to vote for "the plan" |
|
Burr doesn't even list Iraq as a topic.....I had to use "other". I know it's fruitless to ask them to vote against this horrible plan but Dole, at least, might listen since she will be up for re-election.

Remember her campaign slogan. Vote for Dole and make America "Invincible." How's that going Miss Dole?

7. Finally got a response from one of them.....Burr |
|
He claims that "We cannot pull our troops out of Iraq before the Iraqi people are able to maintain order and control and if we do it will give terrorists a base of operation with the wealth of Iraq to expand their war of terror against the world and the world will be less secure because of it. Our success in Iraq will define the security of our children and the security of generations to come. Progress in Iraq will depend on a continued American troop presence. The threat to the United States and our Allies is real". He's grateful for the sacrifices our troops make everyday to keep our country safe.
I'm guessing these are GOP formulaic responses to letters such as mine. I guess I wasted my time writing to him. It will be interesting to see if Dole has the same responses as Burr....that is, if I hear from her!

8. Dole/her office wouldn't even meet with constituents |
|
including VETS and military fams when we lobbied on Jan. 29, we e-mailed called and faxed+ nothing. We had a decent meeting in a conference room with Burr's legislative aide, and an even nicer one with Howard Coble (against surge and supplemental) We showed up at Dole's office and an aide, who announced that he was sick excorted us to the hall and offered to take our info. there were conference rooms that sat unoccupied, a real brush off. I hope they find someone cool to run against her. I almost wish Edwards would drop out and run again, or ow about Miller or????

10. ELEVEN weeks later----Dole has finally responded! |
|
She believes that withdrawal and the resulting defeat in Iraq would have profound negative diplomatic and security consequences across the Middle East and around the world, and would seriously compromise our national security for years to come so she is supporting the president's decision because it directly confronts the deteriorating security situation in Baghdad.
I'll never forget the way she fawned over him at the last SOTU (and probably others). The look on her face made me want to throw up!

11. I have such an attitude problem when it comes to contacting them |
|
I realize that they do somehow keep count of our calls, otherwise, what is their office staff good for? (:)) but it's so hard to bother when it's so utterly useless. I made a bumperstickers for a like minded Democratic North Carolinian, and he is busy getting them on cars: "LIDDY WHO? Missing since '02"

I know what you mean about it being utterly useless to contact them. I think this will be my last. I heard someone call Liddy a "doormat".

Perhaps the organization VoteVets.org will go after her in 2008 in the same way they went after "Senator Maccaca". <--(uh, not sure I spelled that right).
