Veterans For Peace Katrina Caravan To Launch in Fayetteville, March 17, 2007.
Dear Friend--
A year ago, to mark the third anniversary of the Iraq invasion, a large group of antiwar veterans organized a march and caravan to New Orleans, to join other volunteers in Katrina reconstruction work.
This year, at the March 17 Fayetteville peace Rally, Veterans for Peace will launch another vets caravan, bound for the Gulf Coast, where the huge task of recovery and rebuilding remains far from being finished.
VFP's National Executive Director, Michael McPhearson will be spearheading the caravan. Michael is a native of Fayetteville, and served as an artillery officer in the first Gulf war. He has a son currently serving in the army, who has been deployed to Iraq.
The caravan will include representatives from Veterans For Peace, Gold Star Families for Peace, Military Families Speak Out, Iraq Veterans Against the War, signers of the Appeal For Redress, and possibly several war resisters.
Organizers hope to have a program in each town where we can invite the local military to join us for something (i.e. pizza, beer, and discussion, or movie and discussion, or whatever) in the evening.
The caravan's first stop will be near Camp Lejeune, in Jacksonville NC.
(To keep up with Caravan plans: (314) 725-6005 )
Veterans and military family members have been a big part of the Fayetteville peace rallies each year since the Iraq invasion began. The Fayetteville Peace Rally Committee is honored to be able to assist this year's Vets for Peace caravan launch.
