Asheville is now home to 10 Nobel Laureates.
Tom Peterson, a scientist at the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, heard the news on National Public Radio this morning while eating breakfast. As one of 2,000 scientists working with the United Nation’s International Panel on Climate Change, Peterson has a share of the Nobel Peace Prize along with Vice President Al Gore. Peterson was a lead author on a chapter of the scientific report.
NCDC has nine researchers who worked on the reports dealing with global warming. Leonard Bernstein, an independent consultant living in Asheville, is also a lead author on one of the IPCC reports released this year. Bernstein will be traveling to Valencia, Spain, in November to work on the panel’s synthesis report.
