Questions about voting in North Dakota. |
|
I've read that North Dakota doesnn't require registration.
Do they check ids to see if you're in the right precinct?
How do you like your voting system?

1. they only stated checking IDs in the last year |
|
the state legistalure just passed that last time. They look you up by address if you've voted there before; if you're not on the list they add you after checking ID (or a piece of mail). If you don't have ANY form of ID, they still let you vote after signing an afadavit saying you're who you say you are.
We vote on optical scan machines. they seem to work pretty well -- during the primaries they were smart enough to beep and reject your ballot if you voted in both the republican and democratic columns.

2. Adding people to a list sounds a lot like Election Day |

registration.
I'm not sure what the difference is between the North Dakota system and Election Day registration like we have in Minnesota.
Is the difference that if you've never voted at that precinct, you can't get your name added to the list before Election Day?

3. pretty much - there is NO pre-registration |
|
and legally, I believe that you MUST show ID at the poll (on the list or not)
