White Dems. sweep Ohio state-wide races. |
|
Dems. were victorious as follows:
Gov.Strickland, huge, gigantic win. Former atty. gen. Lee Fisher becomes lt. gov., and returns to obscurity. Sec. State Jennifer Brunner. We will count the votes from now on. Atty. Gen. Marc Dann in a surprise upset over Betty Montgomery. Treasurer. Richard Cordray
BUT
Barbara Sykes failed to win the auditor's office despite written proof that her opponent is corrupt. Sykes was our only Black statewide executive candidate. I don't know that race was a factor, but it seems suspicious to me.
Likewise, Ben Espy, our candidate for Supreme Court and our only other Black statewide candidate lost his effort to replace the retiring Alice Resnick who was the only Dem. on the court. Justice O'Donnell (R) was also reelected.

16. Coleman is Stricklands Transition coordinator |
|
I got word from Stricklands' office that Coleman will be Strickland's transition guy, finding the right people for the job. I think we'll see minorities having their say in this office, which would be great.

2. O'Donnell won because of his opponent's campaign |
|
O'Neill ran a really sub-standard campaign using, as he put it
" 8.5 x 11 flyers from a laser printer in his garage "
The next time a dem candidate says, I wont take money, I wont make yard signs, I wont put out lit, I'll just depend on the party to get my name out and I'll use flyers I make up in my garage.
I'll take a rain check on volunteering for the campaign and wish him/her good luck.
What an idiot ...

4. I know. O'Donnell was the only state-wide R running as incumbent too. |
|
O'Neill said he was not accepting campaign donations early in the year. When I heard that I said "Too bad. I would have liked to have a shot at that race."

8. Judge O'Neill is great. |
|
I have a lot of respect for him.
Espy didn't win either and he accepted donations.
I'll gladly volunteer for Judge O'Neill if he runs again.

12. accepting donations is not a reason for everyone ... |
|
(I believe) ESPY lost because there is no racial parity for candidates in statewide races.
O'Neill has a superb background, if I am remembering correctly he is also a veteran, he was running in excellent dem climate.
He lost due to the lack of name recognition, in my opinion.
I respect your opinion and more power to you for your willingness to stand up and fight for him again.

14. Judge O'Neill is also a Registered Nurse and was endorsed by the Ohio Nurse Democratic Caucus. |

I am a founding member of the Caucus and proudly endorsed Judge O'Neill. Tell all your friends who are Democratic Nurses or student nurses to join the Caucus! O8) http://www.ohdemnurses.org/mambo/

15. I did know that Judge O'Neill was an RN |
|
He is so completely fantastic. If anyone has not heard him speak, you really need to. Personally, I was spread to thin between Strickland, Brown, Brunner and Wierauch to really do a lot for O'Neill, but in another year, I could dedicate a lot of my grassroots effort to him. Grassroots is how he will win. He really is the most impressive candidate that I have heard speak. He's incredible.

5. Hmmm...I suspect Taylor's CPA status had something to do with it |
|
That was the main thing I saw on tv in that race--she'll be the first CPA State Auditor. And for moderates, this year's swing voters, that qualification may have carried the day. Likewise, Espy's lack of judicial experience may have factored in.

Taylor's comparative experience ad vs. Sykes got my attention. I didn't vote for Taylor, but I suspect many many independents and moderates did.
After all, this isn't just about party. It IS about experience and capabilities. Especially in fiscally corrupt OH, having a CPA had to help.
So we can hope, then, that Taylor won because of experience and not because of skin color...we must hope...we must hope...

republicans (a republican base in OH) would not vote for him. What is your point, though? Would you rather him win?

I'd rather Sykes had won, of course.

13. Sykes lost because she didn't have a CPA. |
|
I know several people who didn't vote for her because of that alone.
