The organizers plan to rally one second for each of 655,000 civilians and combatants estimated to have died in the war. Those protesting also plan to march around downtown several times a day, adding up to 655,000 feet.
The estimate was based on a survey by Iraqi physicians under epidemiologists from Johns Hopkins University. It was published last October in Britain's prestigious medical journal "The Lancet." ...
"The excuses and evasions change, but the blood-letting doesn't," said protester Walter Nicholes. "The killing is constant."
