John Seiberling was a true progressive ... smart, classy, informed, and passionate. He fought tirelessly for environmental issues throughout his life. In later years, he was a vocal opponent to any drilling in the Alaskan wildlife refuge. He loved the Akron area and was instrumental in creating the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area.
He was a peacemaker, and after his retirement from Congress, worked with the Center for Peace Studies at The University of Akron.
And in 1974, he was on the Judiciary Committee. He wasn't intimidated by the word "impeach."
