This appeared in the July 24 Dispatch.
Ohio counties using touch-screen voting machines must make paper ballots available in the Nov. 4 election, but poll workers won't have to tell voters they have a "paper or plastic" choice, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said yesterday.
Remember to ask for one when you go vote. Or even better yet, stand outside your precinct and let people know they can ask for a paper ballot. Would it be legal for us to post notices at precincts?? I think this is important to guarantee a fair election in our state.
Also, all the good folks who are going to be calling and going door to door, please remind people they can have a paper ballot. I would love to see a few hundred thousand voters ask for paper. Wouldn't that seal the argument against the machines we love to hate?????

1. It would be illegal to post anything at a precinct and within 100 feet... |

of a polling place and poll workers will remove any election related materials that are not approved by the Board of Elections or the Secretary of State. More than likely those counties that don't have the scan system will have placards placed in strategic places reminding voters that they can request a paper ballot. Every election that I have worked as a polling judge has placards instructing voters what has changed or what is new, not that the voters will read them!
