I just read an short entry on the Cleveland Plain Dealer's political blog Openers, and it just tipped me over the edge. I can't stand it anymore. And I have cut way back on reading and listening to the news since before the inauguaration; it's too stressful.
Every group fathomable is bitching they aren't getting their fare share. Moments after the possibility of stimulus monies were even mentioned, local municipalities were inundated with requests and demands for a piece of the action. No thought to the context of other needs and where money is supposed to come from anyway?
It's time to stop spewing complaints and demagoguery and come up with some new solutions.
In Ohio alone, regionalizing some area governments, getting rid of township governance in Ohio, and changing professional/specialty positions such as sheriff, auditor, recorder for hire rather than to be elected would greatly curb the current patronage system of dolling out jobs to incompetents and/or those looking for payback for support. That'll find you some money and eliminate waste both.
It gives me a headache to read all the lather day in and day out. We need to move frieking forward! Or we're gonna be dead.
