Man gets foot caught in paper box

New Philadelphia police had no trouble early Sunday finding a man who was reported to be breaking into a newspaper vending machine at N. Broadway and Fair Ave. NW.

Officers noted that a 34-year-old Mineral City got his foot stuck in the machine after he kicked in the front and broke the display window.

Police contacted firefighters to assist in getting the man’s foot free from the machine then charged him with disorderly conduct while intoxicated and criminal mischief. He was held in jail for eight hours then released.

Officers said the man told them he put 75 cents into the machine, not realizing it was Sunday and the price of the newspaper was $1.50, and became upset and frustrated when it wouldn’t open.
