A friend of mine needs a medical surgery and can't afford the 14K he's been quoted. Apparently the surgeon is only about $1,500 of that cost, which he could come up with, the rest is the hospital cost and the hospital wants all of the money up-front.
My friend is not a bumb, he'd like to be able to pay, and if he would pay them over time, but doesn't have it up front.
The question is, what can be done?
Can he just walk into the ER of another hospital? Bear in mind, this guy will pay for the cost of the surgery, he just can't afford it in advance.
Thanks!

1. I don't think he could unless the surgery would stabilize him or |

save his life right then and there, for example if he was the victim of a gunshot wound or something like that. But if he knows where he wants to have the surgery, for example at OU Medical Center they have social workers who can help him work out the payment arrangements. My best friend had surgery there and they helped her work out everything.

He went to OU Medical Center and although he doesn't have the final bill yet they are basically going to charge him between 3-4K and let him pay it out over a few years, which he was fine with for a first rate surgery.
