American Nazi Party adopts Salem road - shame on you Marion County |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 11:08 PM by SuffragetteSal
Unbelievable and on the anniversary of the halocaust. I say Marion County needs to get a backbone and take down these signs pronto! Apparently there are two schools on that road, Isn't protection of children against hate and violence more important? This does not deserve due process.

2. The county (and state) shouldn't have to do anything about it |
|
This is a matter of protected free speech, the courts have ruled on it already. There's no point in "martyring" the ANP only to have it upheld again and the roadsigns forced back up at gunpoint, so to speak.
The Klan tried this same shit in Alabama a few years ago, IIRC, and the county solved it by renaming the adopted road after Rosa Parks; perhaps Marion county can try something similar. Anyway, the KKK didn't meet its responsibilities for keeping the road clean (it attracted more than its share of litter after the "adoption"), and lost their road-sponsoring priveleges within a year.
The county may as well let it stand until they have a legitimate reason to revoke it. Meanwhile, the residents themselves will likely be taking direct action against the ANP, which is a healthier approach anyway. Organized racism is something entire communities need to defy, from the roots up. Repressing it from the top-down only gives the ANP additional counter-culture mystique.

3. Update- the sign's been stolen |
|
and apparently, the rule is that is the signs get stolen, the group sponsering them has to pony up for replacements.
So long as the rule is equally applied, I have no problem with that.

4. Well, if they put another one up, let's hope someone steals it, too, |

...just so they have to waste their cash replacing the sign instead of killing Jews or something.
Here's to anti-fascist vandalism!
