Kerry in Portland: I'm pissed about the coverage |
|
No mention on Oregonlive's homepage. Only one local station covered it live--and they cut Kerry off mid-speech. WTF?
Still, what I saw was great. Art from Everclear and little Samwise Gamgee on stage with Kerry and Dean--Now that was a sight. Kerry seemed in good form, and Dean gave a rousing opening speech.

1. Yeah? Dennis Kucinich has been in town for weeks with even less coverage. |

Dennis has campaigned across the state for several weeks, and damned if I've seen any articles about him, let alone live coverage of his eloquent and incisive speeches.
Why did you expect our local media whores to give Sen. Kerry the coverage they were so good at denying to Rep. Kucinich?

2. Because he's the presumptive nominee |

Not to take anything from the Kucinich. I think the whole thing's a screw job, just like the "coverage" of the anti-war protests. Many, if not most Oregonians think that all the protesters were anarchists/vandals because of the lying local media.
I just harbored this fantasy that the media might give Kerry some coverage since he may well be President this time next year.

5. The way the local TV covered the anti-war rallys of early '03 was... |
|
...disgusting. Totally distorted. I live downtown and I know how many people came from the 'burbs. Families. Mom, Dad, Buddy and sis from Beaverton. The TV would show the anti-anti war crowds of a half dozen with their little Chinese manufactured American flags. From the anti-war crowds of thousands they'd show the 'black-clad anarchists' doing their stupid little 'we own the streets' dance. It was VERY distorted... At the big week-end rallys all the parking downtown would fill up with people from the 'burbs who did not want war.

3. I clicked back and forth between KOIN and KGW and got... |
|
...most of it. They had weather to talk about. Weather seems to be the major story on local news. I thought JK came off well. HD was his usual self. (I'm not really a Dean fan). Rassman was good. I looked at the crowd as best I could. I'd been down there earlier this afternoon. Lot's of middle-aged people. People between 40-60.

and only saw weather when I clicked around. They call those thunderstorms? Those weather people should spend some time in Kentucky.

In Portland, any weather besides "partly cloudy" or "overcast and raining" is considered newsworthy.

When Kerry comes to town, he draws a crowd and appears in the open, Pioneer Square for crying out loud.
Bush comes here and has to hide. People will notice this.
