Considering purchasing recreational acreage in Baker County...thoughts? |
|
We currently live in Central Oregon -- we bought over 12 years ago, when it was fairly affordable. We've thought about purchasing some "investment" property in the area, but stuff is pretty "untouchable".
A couple weeks back, we saw an ad for a 20-acre forested parcel in Baker County...near Phillips Reservoir and near Sumpter. The acreage has this incredible cabin with solar/propane. The cabin was built in the early 1980's and from the pictures we've seen, is a high-quality (but small) structure. There's a woodstove, propane frig and range, a loft and a wonderful, windowed outhouse. There's also a large deck on the cabin and an additional trex platform for tent. Asking price: $75,000. We've fallen in love with the pictures of the place, and are planning to visit it next month.
So -- a couple of questions? What's the economy like in Baker County? We think this could be both a good investment and a wonderful place to vacation -- and perhaps a place we could advertise to others for use as a vacation rental...so, what would someone pay per night or week to vacation? The cabin is about 25+ miles from Baker City, population <10,000.
