Darlene Hooley votes against Americans....again |
|
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's Legislation requiring hospitals to report illegal immigrants seeking emergency medical care was voted against by Darlene Hooley.
Come on people...illegal immigrants can get our health care, our food stamps, our social services, while corporations export our jobs to overseas.
80% of Americans want something done on illegal immigration yet congress doesn't act. Why? Because big business wants illegal immigration in order to be able to pay BELOW MINIMUM WAGE as well as keep cheap labor supply always high and wages repressed.
They do not even tally the amount in food stamps, prisons, our court system, hospitals and other services supposedly for Americans that are being utilized by illegal immigrants.
Will our representative ever actually represent what the majority want? Not as long as people keep silent and act like this isn't a big deal.

Repeat that until you understand who the enemy is. Cheap Labor Conservatives.
Who pay foreigners ILLEGALLY in the first place. So these people should die because they're afraid of being sent out of the country? When Cheap Labor Conservatives bring them here in the first place???

is against a living wage for hard working americans, and yet he submitted a bill to build and perfect space tourist vehicles,"my bill would give the Wright brothers of today, the pioneers of space exploration, the freedom to develop space tourism." The only space he should worry about is the empty one inside his skull.

On our site are repeated studies to the countrary.
No one says "die" we say Americans who cannot find a job should pick your peas and carrots and Mexico should be reformed and their oppression is one of the reasons these people are coming here.
I know of no study that says this is a plus...plenty that are showing a huge burden and a depression of wages.
I don't know about Rohrabacher but the bill itself was a good idea.
Principles not personalities and with OR the highest unemployment and Americans being denied even minimum wage... this bill should have been supported. Bleed your heart towards your neighbor first...Americans need some help today. EOM.

7. So what's your solution? |
|
Edited on Wed May-19-04 06:45 PM by depakote_kid
Ill concived and punative legislation touted by the likes of Dana Rohrabacher?
Seems to me this is yet another instance of immigrant bashing without much consideration of the complexities of the issue.
Personally, I applaud Darlene Hooley for her vote- knowing- as many do, that there would be a backlash and name calling from certain segments of society. Also, I might add that much of her consituency is farm country- strawberries, this time of year- and the farmers rely on migrant workers to get much of their crop out. Think about that next time you eat a strawberry- or have a notion to deny the pickers health care or basic nutrition....

|
and no they do NOT want ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, polls show overwhelming support to stop it.
Do you know how many Americans are unemployed in her district?
How many who cannot get on the Oregon health plan? How many go without food?
How many will gladly take food picker work, housekeeping and can't get even that?
Get a clue.

15. I know how many illegal immigrants are in Lake Oswego |
|
'bout zero.
I live in her district & wonder why you feel so strongly about this. Not sure about that "overwhelming support" you cite. Hooley's doing a great job.
You can use the exsiting laws to go after employers. Everybody knows which businesses hire illegals, but nobody's really interested in going after them. Just keep creating a market for illegal immigration and go after the workers when they become a liability by trying to exercise their basic human rights. Uh-huh.

10. She is, but you need to write her on outsourcing, H-1b, L-1 |
|
Fantastic environmental record as well as women's rights.
But you need to write her office and talk about wanting anti-outsourcing legislation passed and the stopping of H-1B, L-1.
Here's where it falls apart and considering OR has the highest unemployment in the nation...you have Craig Barrett (CEO Intel) wanting OR universities to increase computer science and engineering while at the same time firing Americans as fast as possible and replacing them with cheap foreign counterparts (the unemployment rate for scientists and engineers is much greater than the national average) this request by Intel is a joke. Even MIT enrollment in science and engineering is down 30% and THE REASON is outsourcing, use of H-1B, L-1 to replace Americans with cheap foreign counterparts. Who is going to study such a difficult subject when upon graduation at best you can look forward to training a foreigner to do your job and odds are won't even get a job in the field?
OR should be putting R&D dollars in companies and jobs that will stay here, like alternative fuel R&D, manufacturing...not listening to more Intel lies.
Intel is also very active in trying to get even more visas in order to replace Americans.
So, you need to write her and demand action in this arena.
Corvallis has HP, GE two of the biggest outsourcers....they abuse American workers like there is no tomorrow and the OR unemployment results validate this!
(bums me out because she has gone after the LFA (low frequency sonar) system the military keeps pushing forward which is killing thousands of whales and dolphins)... another thing, how about a DoD research center $$, in OR to invent an alternative technology to LFA.
i.e. she's part of the India caucus, big lobby dollars and votes in free trade agreements that are decimating Americans as well as ITAA lobbyists who are NOT for Oregonians and NOT for Americans.
Write her and express your opinion to stop this!

11. I'm against illegal immigration |
|
...but to deny illegal immigrants education or health care would cause far more problems than would be solved. Back in the 90's, the GOP in California wanted to turn teachers into immigration agents (via Prop 187, if I remember correctly), effectively planning to deny education to hundreds of thousands of children. If this had come to pass, all of those children would have been out on the streets instead of in school. Needless to say, this would have caused some major problems for law enforcement, etc.
So, instead of punishing the immigrants themselves, we should be enforcing employer sanctions (when was the last time you heard of an employer getting a SERIOUS fine for hiring undocumentd workers ?) & working to improve economic & social conditions in countries from which immigrants come.
As for Hooley, I agree with you that she is definitely more conservative than I would prefer, but she got this vote (against the Rohrabacher bill) right, IMHO.

It required hospitals to NOTIFY they treated an illegal immigrant and then DISCOVER their employer.
This isn't deny someone ill medical care or anything.
It was a way to start tracking to go after employers hiring illegals.
Hooley has a "D" grade on illegal immigration and this is 2 fold: 1 they believe they will get voters 2. depress US wages.

Sorry, haven't read the bill. But, the first sentence in your initial post implies reporting illegal immigrants, not employers:
"Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's Legislation requiring hospitals to report illegal immigrants seeking emergency medical care was voted against by Darlene Hooley".

14. report illegal immigrants in order to track on employers |
|
They have to track these guys somehow. The idea was to identify them and thus get a lead on who their employer is...another avenue to identify the employer.
It's really awful for you can buy a social security card, even a PhD now on the black market for about 200 dollars so even more honest employers may be getting duped. The whole system needs to be overhauled and instead we just get legislation giving away our government sponsored services to groups that are not here legally....while tuition rises, health care costs rise and American good paying jobs are shipping overseas.
Maybe that particular bill isn't so great...for it might keep an illegal from getting urgent medical care and risking their life...just for fear of being identified....but on the other hand... if the US doesn't make it clear they are here illegally, do not have a right to our services and doesn't start deportion in mass... and confront this problem head on.... there is absolutely no reason to not jump the border.
Maybe overhauling the US identity card system to reduce fraud is a better idea to track.
but I'm telling ya, Hooley has a "D" grade in immigration...
even though > 80% of Americans want something done yesterday. Kansas just gave state college tuition breaks to illegal immigrants...now how many Americans need increases in Pell grants and scholarships and can't afford school... what's wrong with this picture?
We need to raise this issue and get our borders secure as well as our social services for the citizens of this country.
Right now you have just no movement in the Senate due to corporate pressure and then they believe illegal immigration will increase their chances of winning the election.
You also get this weird thing from way back when that somehow we should take care of the world's population...well, that's sounds swell, but we need to take care of American citizens first and that's not happening here.
Bankrupties, foreclosures at a record high, record high number of Americans cannot afford health care, record high number of Americans cannot afford college...
so why are we giving away American tax dollars to illegal immigrants while Americans go without?
You don't see illegals going to Switzerland and the reason is Switzerland takes care of it's own first and foremost. If Switzerland hadn't done that, they would have been overrun with WWII illegal immigrants, the rest of Europe a waste land and no one would have stayed, made changes to their home country and built up Europe as we know it today.
Mexico is corrupt and $$ & power in the hands of a few elite.. but as long as the solution is to hop the border, how is Mexico going to change and start building a country for it's people?
No pressure is given to Mexico to build a middle class, they just suck the money into their own greedy pockets and we then get their people jumping the border.
We need a major, major policy shift in both illegal immigration and pressure on other countries to build a middle class.

And by the way, Darlene Hooley represents me and she did the right thing.
So you don't want them to go the hospital when they are sick? Nice guy. Also, it is a public health issue. It also goes against HIPPA, (the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act)
Robert..take your racist crap somewhere else.
