Top of lava dome falls into Mount St. Helens' crater

MOUNT ST. HELENS NATIONAL MONUMENT, Wash. - The U.S. Geological Survey says Mount St. Helens sent an ash plume above its crater rim Saturday.
Scientists say a rock fall knocked a chunk off its lava dome.

The volcano has been watched closely since it rumbled back to life last September when magma broke through rocks in its path.

Scientists have said a more explosive eruption, possibly dropping ash within a ten-mile radius of the crater, is possible at any time.
