| How to we get rid of Greg Walden? |
|
Walden is a Republican who pretends to be a moderate but, on all of the important stuff, he votes straight party line. He lives in Hood River which is fairly liberal. How do we get rid of this guy. Also represents Wasco County where I live. George Bush just barely won here. I think Walden could be vulnerable. Do we start a letter writing campaign to the Oregonian, Dalles Chronicle, Hood River News to start pointing up this guys voting record. Not sure when he's up for reelection but we should start now!!
Most of my neighbors are opposed to "sneak and peek" provisions of the Patriot Act. Walden has consistently supported GOP position. He's vaguely a conservationist but seems only to vote for environmental issues when he knows the vote will fail.
What's the best way to go about getting this guy out?

It doesn't just encompass your area, which IS fairly moderate. It encompasses pretty much the whole state outside of the Willamette Valley and the Coast. That includes the very conservative eastern and southern parts. Walden isn't going anywhere unless he's convicted of a crime and even then he'll be replaced with another Republican. Of the five districts in Oregon, one is solidly Democratic, two lean Democratic, one is a swing, and one is solidly Republican. You have the misfortune of being in the solidly Republican one.

He is a rubber stamp vote for this neocon Administration. I live south of you, and well, since most of Oregon is represented by this jackass, I will tell you, you are not alone in your frustration. I think we have to run someone against him who can point out his lack of independent thought. While we are at it, I'd like to replace the "superman-haired" Gordon Smith. Thank goodness we have Ron Wyden!

They should have identified a candidate by now. Then find out how to help. I am block walking this weekend.
btw, I am in Texas & we're going to get some Cons out of office this time. We have had good success locally and expect to continue our great progress.

I am willing to work on any campaign against both Walden and Gordon Smith. Only possibility I see for getting rid of them is to play up the "Patriot Act" and big spending. People here are conservative and they don't like the government spying on them. These guys have both repeatedly voted for BIGGER GOVERNMENT. We need to get it out there that they have supported these huge budget deficits! Fiscally they are not conservatives, they're spend and spend Republicans.

A viable candidate would need to raise a ton of $ to take on Walden. The national party probably isn't going to help until they think they have a real shot. The challenger would have to raise big bucks privately first.

The candidate running against Greg Walden is Carol Voisin. The election is in November.
I'd like very much to talk with you about your ideas about Greg Walden's vulnerabilities.
I'd be delighted if you'd PM me.
Thanks.

Tried to email you. Won't let me. Don't want to publish my email or phone number here. Is there some other way for me to contact you. Both my husband and I will work for Carol Voisin. We will be out of town for much of July but back for Aug, Sept, Oct. Should I contact her campaign directly?

Rep. Walden has what is known as a "safe seat". He is the anti-Blumenauer of the East. To run a credible campaign against him, one would have to be locally well-known, independently wealthy, and have a lot of free time to waste, which makes most of his natural opponents Republicans. Come to think of it, if he did lose, it would probably be in the Republican primary.
Remember his predecessor? do you? His name was Wes Cooley. He was removed from office for LYING ABOUT HIS VETERAN STATUS in official campaign materials. Even that was not enough to sour the district's voters on the Republican shiteaters.
Barring a major demographic shift, he'll continue to rack up the votes he needs to keep his seat.

| 12. By Supporting Carol Voisin |
|
This is the year that Oregon's 2nd congressional district is ready to jettison Greg Walden, and we can make that happen by supporting his Democratic opponent, Carol Voisin. Like the rest of the country, the 2nd district is sick of the war, the deficit, the government surveillance, the price of gas, the lies and the liars who tell them.
We're fortunate to have in Carol Voisin a woman of integrity ready to insist on truth and accountability in government, who can help us take back the country from Republicans like Greg Walden who are too weak to stand up to an administration that is synonymous with corruption. Greg Walden is owned by corporations. Carol Voisin is her own woman.
A conversation with Carol is refreshing. She's an insightful woman and a straight talker. She tells you what she thinks and not what she thinks you want to hear.
Carol grew up in Aurora, Colorado. Her dad was a bus driver and her mom a homemaker. Like her parents, Carol's worked hard all her life. She started out with a paper route when she was eight years old and used her first earnings to buy two blouses - one for her sister and one for herself. She worked her way through college and graduate school, obtaining a doctorate in theology.
She won her first election while at Montview Elementary School in Aurora, to the position of sports manager. She was the first female to hold this position. Don't you like her already? You can learn more about Carol Voisin when her website goes up on July 4. I'll post a reminder for you to check it out.
Greg Walden has an overflowing war chest, stuffed mostly with out-of-state corporate donations. As a native Oregonian, I don't think much of that. Carol's running a smart, lean campaign, because she can't be bought. Each one of us "regular people" can help her by popping over to actblue.com and making a donation to Voisin's campaign, because she's OUR candidate.
Want to see a Democratic House that can demand accountability from the Administration? Want to see Oregon represented by a person who makes us proud? This is our chance to make a big difference. Give what you can to Carol Voisin's campaign now.
Your neighbor, Elizabeth

I haven't been paid since June and I won't be paid 'til October, with all the bills sitting here waiting for money to come in.
I'll do something else, though. I'll vote for her, since she's running in my district, and gladly.

representing it. Before Walden it was (blech) Wes Cooley! :puke: :puke: :puke:
The real estate prices in Bend will probably do more than anything else to change the demographics of Oregon's east side.

Dear Unschooler,
And before it was Wes Cooley, it was Bob Smith. You're absolutely right that Republicans have owned the 2nd district for decades. And this is a time in our country's history where Democrats are almost afraid to hope. Sometimes I'm afraid to hope myself. But, as my father used to say, it's a long road that has no turning.
I've lived here all my life. I volunteered on the Larryann Willis campaign when she challenged Bob Smith decades ago. I understand that it's an uphill battle, but that just makes victory sweeter.
From a perspective of three decades, I see this as the best time for a strong and honest Democratic challenger to call Greg Walden exactly what he is - a Rubber Stamp for the Bush Administration. Carol Voisin knows that we're all in this together - Democrat, Republican, Independent - and that we must unite to deal with climate crisis, a devastating war, an appalling deficit and an executive branch of government that is out of control.
This is the one race in Oregon in 2006 that will send George Bush a message. This is the only Oregon race that counts from a national perspective. The other Democrats running in 2006 have safe seats, and that's great. But this is the race that can change the demographic in the House. This is the race that can give the House the power to hold the Administration accountable.
We must dare to hope and we must give Carol and all those Democrats working to unseat Republicans our support. If you have $20, take it to ActBlue and give it to Carol.
