Oregon governor denies he knew of sexual abuse
Kulongoski denounces paper's charges

SALEM, Ore. -- Gov. Ted Kulongoski yesterday vehemently denied allegations that he knew for at least 10 years that former Gov. Neil Goldschmidt had sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.
"I never heard anything about Neil and any underage girl" until Goldschmidt revealed his sexual misconduct last month, Kulongoski told The Associated Press.
It was Kulongoski's first direct comment on a report in The Oregonian on Sunday in which a former speechwriter to Goldschmidt said he and Kulongoski discussed Goldschmidt's misconduct numerous times in the 1990s.
Kulongoski described Fred Leonhardt as a disgruntled campaign aide who was upset when Kulongoski didn't hire him to be on his campaign staff in 2002.

1. Neil isn't a Dem...

He has no party. I'm sure Ted K would have turned that dirt ball in. Ted is a good man who wouldn't want to be anywhere near a pig like Goldschmidt. At the very least if he did know he should have gotten way the hell away from him. Neil is a dirt ball. I'd love to kick his ass. :mad:

I am another DU newby, and just checked out the Oregon forum, thus just saw your message. I like Ted K., and honestly believe he did not know about Neil's ugly past or he'd never have appointed him to the Board of Higher Ed, probably wouldn't have had anything to do with him. I agree with you 100% that Neil is a dirt ball. When he was Gov and I was just a poor beleaguered state worker, he insulted me, literally to my face. It gives me great pleasure, all these years later, to find out my opinion of him is vindicated, and I'm especially glad to see his portrait removed from the walls of our Capitol Building. Three different visages in one painting? Give me a break! If you ever get a chance to kick his **s, give him another one for me. And welcome to DU!

4. Yeah, I don't know Neil personally.

Fortunately I never had the mispleasure of meeting him. I probably shouldn't have said I would kick Goldschmidt's ass. He's certainly not worth getting in trouble over. I would not shake his hand or acknowledge him though. I would leave the room. If I couldn't leave I'd turn my back on him and not look at him. I would like to believe that Ted K. would have reacted the same way. I don't care who you are or what you've done previously, it all gets wiped out when you molest a child repeatedly like he did. I refuse to beleive that Ted knew. No way any decent man just ignores that. It just bugs the piss out of me to see a child molester get off scot free. I guess it's not as bad as a double murderer getting away with it, but it is bad.
