I did, when I read the headline, but it's not about THE Grand Jury...
It's a travesty all the same.

Grand Jury Decides Against Criminal Charges

SANDY, Ore. - A Clackamas County grand jury has decided that police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a Gresham man should not face criminal charges.
Officers shot and killed 27-year-old Fouad Kaady last month after he was found wandering naked on Southeast 362nd Avenue in Sandy.

On Sept. 8, police received a report of a hit-and-run car accident and arrived to find Kaady naked.

Police say as the officers who responded to the call tried to get the man under control, he became combative.

7. I don't think it's in the rules, but in context I think it's appropriate
With so many high-profile national indictments on DUers' wishlists, having this in LBN is only going to piss people off.

10. Our happiness has been impeded for 5 years now.
No sense compounding the problem unnecessarily.

9. Another case of police brutality that goes unpunished! this poor man
might have been suffering a head injury. For god sakes, he was on top of the car and not hurting anybody. After a head injury or an accident, people's behavior can become quite a rhetoric and sometimes combative. That is no excuse to kill someone. Couldn't someone just looked at that poor man and realize that he was in agony? What has happened to basic human sense!

11. The Portland area has a real problem
and I see it getting worse and worse.

Too bad the people here can't learn form other cities like LA about what happens when you let officers use deadly force against unarmed suspects with impunity. It gets ingrained in the culture- and becomes difficult (or in the case of the LAPD- impossible) to change.

14. I feel powerless to stop these cops and the DA's who let them off....
With the legal system choosing to look the other way, whoever has the biggest gun wins. I have absolutely zero trust in the police. They are accountable to nobody.

13. Here's the key to the problem.
(snip)
The District Attorney is the legal adviser to the Grand Jury. However, the District Attorney is not present during the Grand Jury's deliberations. Source: ORS 132.090(4); ORS 132.340.

An Indictment is confidential and may not be inspected by anyone except judicial or law enforcement officials until after the arrest of a defendant. No person except the District Attorney or a Peace Officer in making an arrest may disclose any fact concerning an Indictment while it is not subject to public inspection. Source: ORS 132.410; ORS 132.420.
(snip)

And they say they can indict a ham sandwich - if they want to.

I hope these people sue the pants off of Clackamas County.
