I am opening the bidding for 'Next DU Meet-Up Location' ... |
|
TOO many SW meetings in a row ... (Though its hard for anyone to complain too loudly, since only doubleplusgood, his wife, viva and myself met there for the first one in December .... )
Now: WHAT's it gonna be ? ... more precisely: WHERE is it gonna be ? ...
Let's hear of YOUR ideal location .....
The next meeting should be Saturday, February 4th, according to the alignment of the stars ....
Dont be shy .... SPEAK UP ! ...

1. How many people show up? |
|
If 8 or 10, I'd suggest a particular bar in the Alberta St. NE district.

|
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 12:42 AM by LiviaOlivia
For me it's an easier Taxi or TriMet area.
on edit: Should we hook up with the "Drinking Liberally" folks?

I live in that part of town. I know it's a bitch to get to if you don't have a car though. How about something more centrally located like downtown/NW/pearl disctrict. That area would also be accessible by tri-met for those that don't drive.

But many DUer's dont .... Too bad you missed the last two meetings: one at Old Market Pub and Brewery, and the other at Lucky Labrador Public House .... We really enjoyed them ...
But now it is time to seek other locales ... and I am sure many will pop in with great ideas ...
Wherever it is ... See ya there ...

at the Lucky Lab in Multomah Village. It was right in my neighborhood so it was convenient for me, that was my first meetup too. I missed the one at Old Market pub though.

7. Anywhere. I'll be there. |
|
:)
Do we want to stick to the same time? A few people have suggested an afternoon meeting.
My vote is Lucky Lab on Hawthorne - seemed most comfortable for everyone.
:bounce:
Don't forget the Protest Downtown on the 31st!!

Does it have to be in Portland? Can it be in LO, Tigard or Tualatin?

Our first contact .. Nice to meet you ....
I lived in LO (now in Hillsdale), and I currently work in Tigard not too far from Bridgeport Village.
Viva lives in Tigard, and I know a few other members live near this sector of the community as well ....
BUT: We have already met in SW twice in a row .... and it wouldnt be fair to ask that we do so again this time around ....
IF you need a ride or something like that, I would gladly pick you up ... I am known to the members here, and am EXTREMELY safe and nonviolent and all that stuff ...
We would love to have you come to this one, so feel free to PM me here, and we can make arrangements for you, if you need them ....
I have no problem meeting in the afternoon, if the other members wish it as well ....
Hope to see you ....

I am DOWN with that, myself ....
Two of the great things about having these meetings is: 1) Meeting new and like-minded people in a new home state, and 2) Getting to enjoy new experiences at various local landmarks and establishments.
I relish both .... Count Me as a YES, if we whittle down the list thusly ...

There's a band playing at Dublin Pub in Beaverton at 6, and we're all invited. D- who was at the last meetup is helping set up.
FYI - he should be joining us here soon, look for FreeRadical

|
even better would be outside covered tables, and fairly easy to find.
Any of those apply?

It's got outside tables, but I can't remember if they're covered. I only sit at them in the summer.

19. After the last one, my sole criteria for approval is easy access |
|
What do I mean by "easy access"? I'm talkin' Exxon-lobbyist-getting-into-Dick-Cheney's-office easy. I'm talkin' Iraqi-insurgent-getting-explosives easy. I'm talkin' hack-into-a-GEMS-machine easy.
Goose Hollow is okay for easiness. Kell's is okay, too. Lucky Lab on SE Hawthorne is more okay. Anything on SE Hawthorne, Morrison, or Powell west of 82nd, is probably okay. For every block away from a major street, subtract one point of okay-ness. For every 50 blocks away from Multnomah Village, add one point of okay-ness.
Looking forward to seeing you guys again!

22. Carpool for South-easters? |

If we decide to have the meeting somewhere inconvenient to folks in SE, I can give 3–4 people a lift to the meeting. (I live in Woodstock.)
Let me know.

Woop, that's Belmont, not Beaumont.
Amalfi's is in Beaumont, but I don't know if it's non-smoking. I'll check.

24. I'm in SE and don't keep a car... |
|
...so a location with easy Tri-Met access would help.
Two places that are nice are the coffee shop Common Grounds on 43rd and Hawthorne and the Horse Brass tavern on Belmont (about 46th I think). Common Grounds has excellent sandwiches and is comfortable. The Horse Brass is a typical British style pub.
Just suggestions. I realize that anything above 39th on the East Side is like the dark side of the moon to those in SW.
