Election Help Needed, Please! (Clackamas co.)

I'm a procrastinator. :blush: I haven't even opened the voters guide yet, and I really haven't been paying attention to the candidates or anything. :blush: I will submit my vote tomorrow, I promise! Until then, help me make the right choices:

Are there any insidious traps to be aware of, such as a misleading measure, or, something/someone who sounds good but actually isn't? Any red flags? DINOs? Non-obvious stuff?

BTW, I'm in Clackamas County.

1. When in doubt, look for the endorsements

Can't help with local specifics since I'm in Washington cty, but as a rule I try to vote with OLCV whenever possible, then check for endorsements from the various unions, then reliable Dems like Kitzhaber and DeFazio.

Conversely, there are some endorsements that carry negative connotations, like the Portland Business Alliance, various land development interests, or known Republican dips.

I weight the newspaper endorsements lightly either way. Although they usually offer some editorial explanation as to why they're endorsing or opposing a given candidate or measure, there's often some underhanded manipulation at work in their opinions.

The two candidates that really stand out in their red-flagginess are Hill and Burdick: Hill has received a fair bit of republican and casino money to run his ads, and Burdick is functioning entirely as a tool of the regional energy profiteers. It's too bad, cos they both had some legitimate liberal credibility that they're burning on the political pyre this time around.

2. I just submitted my vote!

Once I looked at the ballot, it was almost a letdown, how few people to vote on, and the absence of any measures to vote on. :boring:
Mostly incumbents with no opponents, and a few judges. Oh well, that made it easy.
