I love living in Oregon (PDX in particular), but wouldn't it be nice, just once, to live in a state that MATTERED when it came to nominating a president? Anyone? Or is it just me?

2. IMHO the primary order should rotate

This thing with NH and Iowa having some gawdawful hold on the presidency does get annoying. Equally annoying is other states pushing up their primaries to get in on the action.

I'd like to see a regional rotation, so candidates can minimize the amount of travel. One 4-year cycle the deep south could go first, the next maybe the desert southwest, and so on around the continent. Everyone would get a turn to go first, and we wouldn't have this ridiculous race to push up primary dates everywhere.

I suspect always going first would be a pain in the ass, too. Every four years, the news networks with their artificial celebrities and their pundit allies would descend upon your state like a pack of vultures to a dead gazelle. Once or twice would be okay, but after that, I'd probably tune out altogether. No one should get to go first all the time, no one should have to go first all the time.

I think that is the best idea to address this very real concern.

15. Instead of rotating primaries, I'd like to see this:

All primary ballots delivered by mail, Oregon style. None of them to be opened or counted until the last primary date has passed, and then all of them counted on the same day.

Along with that, I'd like to see all polls banned.

If nobody knew who was ahead, nobody could be "crowned" ahead of time, later primary voters wouldn't be influenced by early primary votes, and our votes would be equal to every one else's.

I (and 39% of Oregon Dems) voted for Jesse Jackson anyway.

I'm conflicted. It's probably bad for the party for it to stay undecided that long. But, man, how sweet it would be, just once, of the media to descend on Portland and Bend and Astoria in a feeding frenzy as the entire nation turns it's eyes to us and watches us...walk to the mailbox. No sense of drama, I'm tellin ya, we got no damn sense of drama here. :eyes:

I like the proposal being bandied about at the DNC about holding 4 regional primaries. Though the rotating primaries are a good idea.

Iowa and New Hampshire, please. Is tradition really that important?

17. National Primary Day is the answer, but I've been singing that tune for so many years...

I don't want to think about it.

We are benchwarmers and also-rans in the Presidential primaries -- but there is one real race we're going to be working on.

That is ousting flip-flopper Republican Sen. Gordon Smith. Please support the Democratic side of this race. It's very important.

My husband, Audio Al, is an elected delegate/committee person with the Washington County Democrats.

We'll probably be working the various Farmer's Markets this summer (Tigard and Beaverton particularly).
