I apologize for asking..but I need state tax help...I live out of the country |
|
I'm in desperate need of some solid tax advice.I am a retired Teamster Pensioner. The wife and I moved to SE Asia last March (07).My tax preparer has stated that I will need to pay Oregon taxes even tho I don't live there anymore ($1500 this year).Sounds ridiculous, but she mentioned something (in our e-mail discussion) about the pension being earned in Oregon.Every Teamster in the country pays into a seperate fund, and then upon retirement we each recieve a pension check, which is managed by Prudential.
It seems to me that I am no longer an Oregon resident, and therefore have no more liability. If I lived in California, would I still have to pay Oregon state taxes?
I'm in no mood to pay Oregon tax when I am no longer a resident.Could I simply fill out a 1040 for federal, and simply ignore Oregon filing?
I could use some advice here if anyone would care to help.PM's are fine as well,as this topic probably doesn't come up very often.
